Annual Meeting
The 2012 CAGONT Annual Meeting will be held from October 12-13 at the University of Toronto - Scarborough. More information will be available in Spring/Summer 2012.

Membership
All members in good standing of the Canadian Association of Geographers residing in Ontario shall be members of this Division. Membership may also be accorded to other CAG members upon request to the Secretary/Treasurer.

Constitution
1. Name
The name of this association shall be The Canadian Association of Geographers - Ontario Division (CAGONT).
2. Membership
All members in good standing of the Canadian Association of Geographers residing in Ontario shall be members of this Division. Membership may also be accorded to other CAG members upon request to the Secretary/Treasurer.
3. Purpose
To support the objectives of the Canadian Association of Geographers in the encouragement of geographical study, teaching, research and application in general, and especially in Ontario.
4. The Executive
i) The Executive shall consist of an elected President, Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer; a student (chosen by students); and two appointed representatives: one from the department that held the immediately previous CAGONT Annual Meeting and one from the department that will hold the next Annual Meeting.
ii) The major duties of the President are to convene and chair an Annual Meeting and to convene such other activities as the Executive deems appropriate.
iii) The Secretary/Treasurer shall be responsible for notifying all members of details of the Annual Meeting at least one month in advance of that meeting. He or she shall have charge of the finances of the Division, and shall keep the files of the Division. The Secretary/Treasurer shall also provide liaison between members.
iv) The two appointed representatives shall be responsible for keeping the Executive adequately informed with regard to the Annual Meeting, its operation and possible improvements thereto. They shall also be responsible for the implementation and judging of the annual student essay awards programme.
v) All tasks not stated are the responsibility of the Executive as a whole. In this matter the Executive may co-opt other individuals to the Executive, as non-voting members, as need be. The Executive is also free to set up committees (permanent or ad hoc), reporting to the Executive as the need arises.
5. Terms of Office
The terms of office of the President, Vice-President, student and appointed department representatives shall be three years; that of the Secretary/Treasurer shall be three years. Terms start and end at the conclusion of the Annual Meeting each fall.

6. Voting and Elections
i) Only members of the Division may hold Executive office and vote in elections.
ii) All voting shall take place at the Annual Business Meeting of CAGONT, which shall be held during the CAGONT Annual Meeting. All items voted on are carried by a simple majority of members present and voting. In case of a tie the chairperson shall cast a deciding vote.
iii) No proxy votes shall be permitted.
iv) All items of business can be introduced on the meeting floor. The nomination of a person not present at the Annual Meeting requires his or her consent in writing.
7. Constitutional Changes
i) Any proposed changes to the constitution must be submitted in writing to the Secretary/Treasurer by a member in good standing accompanied by the signatures of at least eight other members in good standing.
ii) Such proposed changes must be submitted to the membership, in writing, at the time of the notification of the Annual Business Meeting.
iii) The Annual Business Meeting may change the constitution by a simple majority vote of those present and voting at the meeting.
8. Financial Matters
i) The Executive shall apply to the CAG central office for funds to run its operation, in conformity with current practices.
ii) CAGONT shall also require the organizing committee of each Annual Meeting to charge an Association support fee for each registrant. The amount of this fee shall be decided by the Executive annually.
